Our holiday villas in Istria, Croatia, are still close to Western Europe: 1.300 km from Brussels, 500 km from Munich. So coming by car is a valid alternative, though an airline might be more comfortable. Underneath you will find some indicative suggestions. By car

Coming from the North, we advise you to come via the Karawanken Tunnel to Slovenia at the Austrian border and continuing via the highway to Ljubljana and Koper. From there you can enter Istria either via Buzet (Balini) or Buje (Oprtalj). If your destination is the east coast, then travel via Rijeka. When coming from Italy you will travel via Trieste. Please note that no GPS maps for Croatia and Slovenia are available.

By plane

You can come by plane and make use of the many cheap airlines available. For guests from the Benelux and the London area, there is now the possibility to fly with "Ryanair" to Trieste (Italy), at only some 1,5 hour drive and Pula (Croatia) less than one hour from both houses. A much used alternative connection is Treviso (3 hours), near Venice, again with " Ryanair". In this case many use the opportunity to visit Venice on the way. It is possible to rent a car from Hertz (accessible from the RyanAir website) from each airport. Other airports are Rijeka (a little over 1 hour) in Croatia with " EasyJet". Ljubljana (two hours) is another possible airport."Contact" us for more advise.

By train or bus

Coming by train, you can reach Istria using the following lines: Ljubljana (Slovenia) - Divaca - Buzet - Pula or Zagreb - Rijeka - Pazin - Pula. More info on www.hznet.hr.
When coming from Italy you can take the train from Venice to Triest, and continue by bus ( www.visit-croatia.co.uk/travellingaround/bus.htm ). The Croatian busses stop at the bus stop just next to the railway station in Trieste. This is also a cheap alternative when arriving by plane in Treviso, Venice or Trieste. Bus connections can be found everywhere in Istria.

By boat 

When coming from Italy, one may want to take a ferry across the Adriatic Sea. But even along the coast of Croatia, the ferry is a valid alternative. There are daily connections with Dubrovnik and all possible ports in between. 
This means of transport is a very fast and comfortable way of travelling. At the same time this is also a beautiful experience. The Croatian coast is dotted with islands embedded in a blue sea. For more information we refer to the website of for example Jadronlinija: http://www.jadrolinija.hr/.
